A Word from Winter Breakers

This past winter, three Clemson students ventured to different FIMRC sites for two weeks to help at the clinics! Here’s what they had to say:

When I signed up to go to Nicaragua, I had no idea what to expect. I was the only person going from Clemson, and there was only one other girl from Florida that joined me there, so I was nervous, but excited for the experience. I spent the week with the most amazing family in Las Salinas, and my Spanish improved incredibly. I started to feel like I was actually part of their community. Nicaragua is a beautiful country with amazing people, but they need help, just like most developing countries. While I was at the clinic, I got a lot of hands on experience with patient care, and I learned things that I wouldn’t have here in America. Hopefully soon I can return to Nicaragua, and I can’t wait for that! ” – Kate Watkins

The things I learned and experienced while on my FIMRC trip aren’t things you can get from a textbook. These moments were ones that dig deeper; they’re ones that will shape the person that I am becoming, and impact the way I see the world around me. My experience opened my eyes to so many things- I realize now how true it is to say that even the smallest actions can have the biggest impact on people’s lives. My trip to Peru was an amazing two weeks. Seeing the happiness that the simplest things brought to the people we worked with was something I wouldn’t trade the world for. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to go on the trip, and will cherish the experiences and relationships that I made along the way forever! ” – Maggie Scanlon

Thank you to all of our members who travel to the sites and represent Clemson well : ) Keep exploring!
